On Friday 18 July the President of the Italian Senate Pietro Grasso will open the Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees for Union Affairs of the Parliaments of the European Union.
The meeting will take place in the Plenary Hall at Palazzo Madama. The proceedings will start at 9 am with introductory remarks by Vannino Chiti and Michele Bordo, Chairpersons of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies Committees on EU Policies.
Addresses will be delivered by State Undersecretaries Sandro Gozi and Graziano Delrio, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for inter-institutional relations Maroš Šefčovič, and European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn.
This will be the first meeting within the parliamentary dimension of the Italian Presidency of the EU Council.
The items on the agenda will be the priorities of the Italian Presidency and prospects for the European Union after the European elections, European structural and investment funds 2014-2020.
The meeting will be broadcast live on the Senate satellite channel and web TV as well as the Parliament YouTube channel.
The meeting will also prepare for the COSAC (Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of the Parliaments of the EU) plenary meeting to be held in Rome, in the Senate premises, from 30 November to 2 December 2014.
Before the meeting on Friday 18 July, a meeting of the Presidential Troika of COSAC (the Chairpersons of the Committees for Union Affairs of the Parliaments of Greece, Italy and Latvia) and representatives from the European Parliament will take place on Thursday 17 July in the afternoon.
On the same afternoon, the Chairpersons of the Committees for Union Affairs of the Parliaments of the EU South will meet at 3 pm to discuss "Mediterranean policies of the European Union for a Europe oriented towards growth and full employment".
