The guiding principle behind this accessible site project is the goal of making the information available to all, thus enabling all users to have unhindered access to all pages.

Removing barriers means enabling everyone to access information and use the site services, in the awareness that modes and tools may be different.

For this purpose, the main national and international accessibility standards were enforced. Accessibility requirements established under Law 9 January 2004, no. 4 and Ministerial Decree 8 July 2005 were complied with.

The following actions were performed:

• to ensure code and style sheet validity, W3C's Markup Validation Service and CSS Validation Service were used;
• all elements were used in a semantically appropriate way: appropriate markups were given to headers, lists, paragraphs, labels for module checking, data tables, etc.;
• pages were tested with several browsers working on different platforms and operating systems. The look and usability of pages are very similar and contents are the same;
• contents and functions are available also if image loading is turned off;
• contents are available even if character size is changed;
• keyboard navigation through a web page is always ensured and does not require a high level of familiarity with computers;
• contents and functions may still be used, although in different modes, even if style sheets, scripts, applets and other programming tools are disabled;
• contents and functions may be used also with a text-only browser and contents maintain their overall meaning and appropriate semantic structure;
• text readability is ensured by a strong contrast between the text and background colour and the algorithm used, as per Annex A of Ministerial Decree 8 July 2005.

To ensure that our minimum goal is achieved, we have requested certification under Law 9 January 2004, no 4.
